Warabino terraced rice paddies are located on the slopes of Mt. Yawata in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. Yawatadake is designated as Yawatadake Prefectural Natural Park. In 1999, Warabino Rice Terraces were selected as one of the 100 best rice terraces in Japan, and in 2008, including the landscape around the terraces, was selected as one of the country's important cultural landscapes.
The terraced rice paddies, which number about 1,050, were built between 180 m and 420 m above sea level, with a difference in elevation of about 240 m. The terraced rice paddies are fan-shaped when viewed from the village.
Some of the terraced rice paddies were built in the Edo period (1603-1867), but most of them were built between the Meiji and early Showa periods (1868-1912). Today, they are the largest terraced rice paddies in Japan.

The drone will take off from the Tanada Koryu Hiroba and head for the terraced rice paddies of Warabino. Some of the terraced rice paddies in Warabino are piled with stones as high as 8 meters, making them the tallest in Japan.
The terraced rice paddies built on the steep slopes of Mount Hachiman look like a fan when viewed from below.
Kunugi (sawtooth oak) and sugi (Japanese cedar) are planted between the terraced rice paddies, and the natural forest of Mt. Yahata remains above the terraced rice paddies. This landscape has been selected as one of the important cultural landscapes of Japan as a "paddy field/forest complex landscape.
