Terraced paddy fields of Oniki
The terraced rice paddies of Oniki-no-Tanada are terraced paddy fields spread out on the slopes of the Kokuzo Volcano, and are characterized by the use of stone walls. They cover an area of 22 hectares, and the number of paddy fields exceeds 400. In 1999, it was selected as one of the "100 best terraced rice paddies" in Japan, and is a place of scenic beauty.
It is said that the area was cultivated between the Warring States Period and the Edo Period. The land is blessed with no shortage of water, even without reservoirs, due to the water flowing from the Kozu Volcano.
Every year around September, the Oniki-Tanada Festival is held and various events are held. The scarecrow contest in particular attracts a lot of attention with its lineup of unique scarecrows.

The drone will fly from the Oniki-no-Tanada observatory. The terraced rice paddies of Oniki-no-Tanada are spread out in the foothills of the Kukakuzo volcano.
In addition to the terraced rice paddies, cherry blossoms and tea plantations are scattered throughout the area, creating a beautiful landscape. The upper the terraces, the more tea fields there are. Also, there are no utility poles or power lines to maintain the beautiful scenery.
The shape of the terraced rice paddies has been improved in recent years, resulting in more straight terraced paddies. The mountains behind the terraced rice paddies are the source of water that moistens the terraced rice paddies.
